Hmm

I tried on someone's sheitel today, and I looked really good. So now I'm wondering if I should grow my hair out again. If you could do me a favor, I've posted a poll at the side of the page to get your opinions [EDIT: I reformatted the poll at 2:20 a.m. on August 12th, so if you voted in the old one (that only had two categories), can you vote again please? Todah robbers!]. Even if you don't know who I am, you are welcome to vote. This is basically what my hair style is now:

I cut my hair in 2005, after I graduated from high school. My hair was sooooooo long before - almost to my elbow. I cut it for a few reasons: a) it was way too long; b) I wanted to donate it to make wigs for kids with cancer (which I did); c) I had always kind of wanted this haircut ever since I saw this ad. I just didn't work up the guts to do it until after high school.

On a separate, more random note, did you know that when you Google "halacha of going clubbing" my blog shows up as the third hit?

Hi Apple,

First of all, the voting didn't seem to go so I'll vote here. I personally like long hair better (sorry to a certain person who was in my hs class if ur reading this! :-). But short hair worx too, don't worry I am not morally opposed :-).

And secondly, that random fact is so cool!

Rebecca, hmm. I'm going to enter your vote in the poll to see if it works. Dunno why it didn't.

Apple,

I like your hair. I wish I could pull it off. Plus, think how little time it takes to straighten it. But what's most important is that you're happy with your hair.

By the way, for some reason a certain college sent me an ftoc orientation packet (I have no clue why since I'm not a freshman nor am I attending the school). The reason I'm telling you is b/c there's a picture of you in the packet. You look good--don't worry.

I would like to protest--you have biased the poll in favor of voting for short hair! By writing the long hair option as "short hair is too weird for shidduchim" you will cause people who might otherwise prefer long hair to vote for short just because shidduchim is a completely ridiculous reason for changing one's haircut! People who are against shidduch bullying will vote for short hair just because of this! Plus, "your hair gives you character" is clearly a very positive formulation as well! If you wanted unbiased responses you should merely have written "short hair" and "long hair." Hmph. You already know my opinion on this issue. :)

And when did you write about the halacha of going clubbing? :P

Okay, okay, I redid the poll! Now there's more choice, and it's less biased. Hehe. I do know your opinion on my hair already. If there wasn't such a painful growing out stage . . .

Apparently because I wrote "halacha" in one post, and "clubbing" in another, they both show up on Google. What a strange thing a search engine is.

DDP - thanks! And what pamphlet?? I wanna see!

I don't like these blogger polls! Every time I try entering a vote, it says "cannot process your request." But one way or another, I still vote in favor of longer hair. Note that it does not have to be as long as SJ's (If i know who SJ is correctly), but I'm not so into the short cut. However, to each her own--if you want to keep the short hair, I won't think any less of you :-).

And DDP, I got a "passport" packet thing--is that what u were talking about?

Hey Apple,
I have yet to post on your blog, but I've been following it for a bit. Oddly enough, I found it a little while ago, not knowing who you were and I perused through your blog and then I forgot about it. Then I saw you in a certain chinese restaurant 2 weeks ago and we talked for a while because we are friends from school.(now you can guess who I am) Then, THAT NIGHT, I "coincidently" happend upon your blog through DDP's blog and I was reading it and "CLICK" I realized who's blog I was reading based on a number of factors. Strange, isn't it?

Anyway, I was going tell you either here or in person, but I figured I would now because I wanted to post about your hair.

So about your hair: I've never known you with long hair before so I can't say what I think you should do to your hair, to grow or to not. But what I can say is that when I met you and you had short hair, I thought it was really cool and that it looked very nice and not many people can pull off such a style! So Kudos to you for taking the plunge and doing something that would have taken months of growing to fix what could have been a disaster.

I also cut my hair to donate to children with cancer. I had long hair my whole life, even whenI was young and finally right before 11th grade I cut my hair 13 inches and my hair went from hitting my lower back to right above my shoulders. It was definitely not as drastic as your pixie cut, but still a major difference and now I keep it should length.

I definitely think it would be cool to see you with longer hair. It's kind of hard to picture you with longer hair, but I'm sure it would look fine, being that you've had longer hair previously.

Sorry for the long comment. A note about the "Passport to your tomorrow". I got the same thing as Rebecca and I didn't see you in the packet, but maybe I missed you. Maybe DDP got a different packet because she got the freshman packet, even though she's not a freshman.

Rebecca - hmm. Dunno why it doesn't work. Blogger gets annoying that way.

Anonymous - hee hee hee. I know who you are. I'm curious as to how many of my readers *don't* know who I am (probably most do at this point). Definitely most of my commenters know who I am! Oh well. I don't really care. But thanks for commenting, and please do so again! I'm happy to read your thoughts.

Apple,
Truth be told, I'm not much of a poster as I'm not such a fan of blogs (please don't stone me other bloggers reading this). I can elaborate more in person or on some other type of communication, but not here and I would definitely like to hear from you about it some time. Something as neutral (albeit important) as hair length, I can handle though!
See you in 2 weeks! Crazy aint it?

Apple,
I like your hair short. And if your worried abour shidduchim, growing it out will take a very long time (although I agree with SJ in that I think shidduchim is a silly reason to grow out your hair). But, if you feel like growing it out again then go for it!

Diet Dr. Pepper said...

Hey Apple,

I don't know when I'd be able to show you the pic, but if you befriend a freshman (real or otherwise), I'm sure you'll have the opportunity to see it.

About shidduchim, just to freak you out, a kid my age from camp got engaged a week ago. I was pretty shocked myself. Perhaps you won't be, since you're an East Coaster. Here in the Midwest, we haven't gotten used to child marriages yet (at least I haven't).

jackie said...

Hehe...I voted for the "not sure" option, just because the idea of doing anything to your hair influenced by the all-powerful force of shidduchim-anxiety makes me laugh. A lot.

No, actually, I'm just not sure.

Maybe you should just start wearing wigs altogether. It would relieve you of having to decide.
:-)

Okay, let me make this clear. I just don't like short hair in general. Period. Shidduchim or otherwise. However, I don't know how ud look with long hair, so I guess I'm biased lol. In any case, shidduchim should not make a difference in ur decision. And think about it for a sec, Apple--u could start growing it out if ur not sure, and if u don't like it u can always cut it! Be happy ur problem isn't the other way around, where cutting it is the problem itself! :-)

And DDP, I just heard about another girl on the East Coast (my city, actually) where a girl ur age got engaged. And it was weird for us as well--while the shidduch age can be low sometimes, we're not used to that low. In any case, I wish everyone hatzlacha no matter how old they are when they get engaged. :-)

P.S. When ru leaving for Israel DDP?

apple, never seen you with long hair so i can't judge but whatever. its a change. personally im not used to short hair but i don't really hang out with so many girls. for me i get my hair cut as low as it can be halachikally cut (but im a guy so i can do that)

I think your haircut is really cute and businesslike. Really long hair requires a lot of hair and can make a person look less professional. An above the shoulder haircut is a good compromise sometimes and requires less hair. If you changed back to long, I don't know how we would recognize you. :)

SephardiLady said...

Just checking in and make that a lot of care (although long hair does require a lot of hair).

Apple! I have been on blogging-hiatus ever since I went to California, really, and did not know about this poll until tonight! So now that it is closed, I will just say that I think you look really cute the way your hair is now, but I, personally, am very partial towards longer hair. Like, not insanely long, but at least to the shoulders. But that's just me. You should do what you feel comfortable doing, and knowing my opinion about hair, I still think you look cute with the short hair :)
